Conferences

Why go?

Attending conferences is a good way of finding out about the latest research in your area, meeting like-minded individuals, and sharing your own ideas with a wider audience.

It is important that candidates develop a conference and publishing plan with their Supervisory Panel early in candidature. The Call for Papers for most conferences is at least six, and often nine months, in advance of the conference.

Many candidates find that presenting a paper at a conference and then revising for publication in light of comments from conference participants is a very helpful publishing strategy.

Overseas research

It may be helpful for you to spend some time abroad researching in an overseas department or research centre that has specialists in your area. If you think you may be interested, start thinking seriously about it well in advance.
